Episode 5: Dr. Kelly Ablard

In Episode Five the COSP welcomes Dr. Kelly Ablard, Founder and Director of the Airmid Institute, which is dedicated to the global education, research, and sustainable management of aromatic medicinal plants. She is also a global speaker, author, researcher, community scientist, and as an educator. Dr. Ablard shares her knowledge and wisdom gathered through her work in chemical ecology and aromatherapy with the team and their listeners. She illustrates the importance of the intersection between plants, science, and culture through her work with the Shipbo people of Peru and their deep relationship with Rosewood as both a medicine and a spiritual teacher. She goes on to discuss some of the important questions to ask when sourcing ethical materials for perfumery. She leaves us with a deeper understanding of social elements of sustainability and how they play a role in the plight of plants used in perfumery that are nearing extinction and what we can do to help.
